Mentoring Opportunities

National Mentoring Partnership
Founded by philanthropists Geoffrey T. Boisi and Raymond G. Chambers, the National Mentoring Partnership serves as a clearinghouse of mentoring opportunities for young people ages 10 - 18. Click here for a comprehensive list of academic and social mentoring opportunities in the State of Maine.

The Electronic Emissary
This is a K - 12 mentoring program that takes students and teachers through a five-step project planning model before matching students with a mentor. Projects generally last 4 - 6 weeks and mentors can communicate at least once-a-week for the duration of the project.


International Telementor Center
This site offers academic-based mentoring to students in grades 3 -8. It’s run the by the Colorado Nonprofit Development Center which is part of the International Telementor Program. The cost is $200 per year and mentors and students have 2-3 contacts per week.

Peer Centered
Sponsored by Salt Lake City Community College. Writing tutoring through online discussion groups and chat rooms. Archived discussions.

Scientopia
A science, engineering and math mentoring project designed for students in grades 9 - 12 with disabilities.


The National Mentoring Center

A project of the Northwest Regional Educational Laboratory, the NMC has a variety of resources ranging from recruiting mentors to meta-sites with lists of mentoring opportunities.

National Science and Technology Educational Partnership
Designed for students K - 12, the NSTEP provides resources for teachers and students around technology and science education. A specific program sponsored by NSTEP is TechXplore, that connects students with experts in the fields of telecommunications and
electronics.

Achievement Advocate - Online Mentoring Community A nonprofit designed for children in grades 4 - 6 who show promise in writing. Mentors reviews student's online wrting and engage them in conversations around books, life lessons and 'Steps to Success' profiles.

IBM Education
In addition to mentoring, this site has science-based activities. The MentorPlace is an academically-based mentoring program sponsored by IBM.
