CATHANCE RIVER NATURE PRESERVE

The Cathance River (a native American name meaning "Crooked") originates in hilly terrain in Litchfield, ME and meanders in a generally southern direction to Bradley Pond in Topsham, ME and then flows east/northeast into the Merrymeeting Bay. Approximately 1.5 miles of the Cathance River passes through the Cathance River Nature Preserve. The trails at Highland Green and in the Cathance River Nature Preserve form a series of largely interconnected loops. Each loop is less than 1.2 miles in length (from the trailhead) and each has its own special appeal.
