 Lord of the Ringwraiths...NOT!

The Lord of the Rings  are great books, and a great movie.   Harry Potter broke the record for best
selling movie in just 3 weeks. But The Fellowship of the Ring smoked that record...  IN 1 WEEK! If
you ask me I think that J.R.R. Tolkien put a lot of thought and time into those books. But I
wonder  why they took out the Barrow and Tom Bombadil etc.. from the movie? And why did they
put so much detail in the wizard fight and the violence when there wasn't that much in the
book? Well I guess that those questions are unanswered. Have fun with the rest of the site!

            Review
Personally I think that The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring was a good movie. But if
you watch closely, you'll see that some parts were changed. The forward is about a ring of power
and a hobbit; Bilbo Baggins finds the ring. He goes back to his town; Hobbiton, and leaves and the
ring ends up in the hands of a hobbit named Frodo Baggins. Now it's a journey to destroy the
            ring.
In the book, it says that Saruman ( a good wizard,  the best of them all,  turned bad) and Gandalf
fought,  but they didn't really describe it. In the movie,  it described the fighting really well. Also in
the book it tells about the message from Gandalf, (the figure in the stone and the glare of light
from Weathertop) but in the movie, Weathertop (the big famous mountain) was just a bunch of
fighting. In the book it tells about how Farmer Maggot brings Frodo, Sam, and Pippen to
Buckland. Then they happen to find Merry and he takes them across the Buckleberry Ferry.
Buckland is a large village in The Shire. But in the movie, it started out as Merry being with them.
Also in the movie it shows Merry and Pippen setting off the big fireworks,  but in the book it
doesn't tell about that. In the book Aragorn, (Strider, who is a helpful ranger) tells the
hobbits (which are little creatures similar to humans that are mostly 3 feet tall and have leather type
fabric on there feet so they don't have to wear shoes) that they should sleep in the room that they
are in so that the Riders don't kill them. It happens in the movie,  but Aragon doesn't explain it. In
the movie it shows the orcs (ugly monsters  with yellow teeth) cutting down the trees to make the
paths to Moria (an evil underground country that is infested with orcs and mountain trolls) but in
the book it doesn't say about that part. It also shows the eagle saving Gandalf  from Orthanc
            (Saruman’s tower).
My opinion is that they over exaggerated on the fighting parts and didn't get in enough of the
important parts. Also it's kind of freaky because things just come right around the corner, and
sometimes you don't know when they're coming. If you ask me I give it an 8.9. I thought it was good.
If you see the movie, you'll be surprised because some parts that are in the book aren't in the
movie, and some parts that are in the movie aren't in the book.
            Cast
            Elijah Wood: Frodo Baggins
            Viggo Mortensen: Aragorn (Strider)

Lord of the ringwraiths...NOT!

            January 18, 2002

            Dear Peter Jackson,
On a scale from 1 to 10,  we rate Lord of the Rings a 10! It could have improved if you had put in
the left out chapters, especially The Fog On The Barrow Downs, our favorite chapter. It's our
favorite chapter because when the hand gets cut off by the sword and they left, it was still
wiggling. Our favorite part in the movie was when they were in the mines and they could hear the
drumbeats of the orcs. You must have put a lot of effort into making the orcs because they are so
            scary and ugly.
Please tell the actors that we think they did very well especially Frodo, Merry, and Pippin. Frodo
did well at being emotional. Like when Gandalf came back Frodo flew into his arms like a
speeding airplane. Merry and Pippin are always getting into trouble and they were funny. Like
when Pippin made the dwarf skeleton fall into the well in the mines of Moria.
We have started reading The Two Towers and we can't wait to see the movie. How soon is it
            coming out? Hopefully very soon!

            Sincerely,

            Chelsea and Mallori

            Dear Peter Jackson,
I love the Lord of the Rings movie but you added a tad too much fitting. You could have taken that
time to do Fog in the Barrow Downs. I and the rest of my reading group wanted to see Tom
Bombadil stomping on the hand. I thought that Tom was funny! I wish you related it to the book
            more then you did.
The part where you made orcs crawl down the post until the cave troll comes is different. In the book the orcs
can't climb. In the part where the troll tries to kill Frodo, Sam is the only person who tries to help
Frodo , but in the movie Sam, Strider and Borer try to help Frodo.
You should try to think about what J.R.R TOLKIEN would have done. The movie was on and off!
In other words I like the details but I don't like where the troll takes Gandalf with his tongue.
I think Sam and Frodo are the best actors in the movie because they are so funny and careless in some
parts. Like the forest where they get sucked in. They take time to explain their plans not only to the
movie actors but also to the people watching the movie. like Strider when he whispers to the actors
to tell them his plan but Frodo and Sam tell the people too. Is it easy to be a director? Other than
that you did a great job. I love it all together almost. Great Job!!! I'm going to watch it again and
            again. Bye.
            Your new friend,
            Evelyn

            Review

The Lord of the Rings: the Fellowship of the Ring is a really good movie but they left out some
really great parts of the book like the Barrow Downs and Farmer Maggot's house and when Merry
and Pippin make the biggest fire work go off.
I would not recommend the movie for kids under the age of seven because there is too much
violence in it. Like when Aragorn cuts off the biggest orc's head . You can see the insides! It's
            disgusting!
I think Sam and Frodo are both really emotional because Sam almost drowns trying to get to
Frodo so he won't leave without him and  Frodo saves Sam from drowning and pulls Sam
            into the boat.

            Review
I really enjoyed the Lord Of The Rings movie. I think it had too much violence in the movie. I
think that the book was a little bit better. I would try to make a Saturday morning show,  called
The Frodo and Sam Show! Lord Of The Rings is such a hard book to read! The movie added stuff
that wasn't in the book. For an example Gandalf the Grey and Saruman the White got in a
wizard fight and Saruman was making a stronger type of orc. Orcs are Elves tortured in flames and
other mean stuff. Orcs work for Sauron. I think that at the end when an orc gets his head cut off,
that wasn't in the book. Out of five stars I'd rate it four and a half stars. The movie is good. The
movie added Isengard;  that is a place where Saruman created the Uruk-Hai. The Uruk-Hai are a
group of orcs that are stronger than the original orcs. If you are seven years old or younger, I
wouldn't watch it because it is loud for the ears, violent and has some bad language. I bet that one of
every twenty think that the movie is better.
