The Certification Council exists to assist you in your efforts to obtain or maintain your teaching certificate. The council acts as the local certifying agent for the Commissioner of the Department of Education. It has two important functions: to recommend to the commissioner whether or not certification should be renewed and to assist all teachers in developing professionally.
Teachers on the Certification Council are elected by their peers with the administrative member being appointed by the superintendent. In order to serve on the council, a teacher needs to have at least five years of continuous experience with a minimum of two years in M.S.A.D. 75 and hold a Professional Level Certificate or higher. Administrators must have at least a Professional Level Certificate. All members are elected for a two year term. Elections for the chair, co-chair, secretary and technology support person are held annually at the June Certification Council meeting.
