
Mrs. Talbot's First Graders learned all about the Pilgrims. They will each share a fact with you.

Allison: Half the Pilgrims died the first winter. They were buried at night. Tyler: Squanto showed the Pilgrims how to grow corn.

Chantelle: The Pilgrim children had a lot of chores to do. The boys got itchy when they gathered the rye. Chip: They used a mortar and pestle to grind corn and they used a churn to turn cream into butter.

Jesse: I liked the way the Pilgrims rolled up their hay mattresses. Gabe: The Mayflower sailed in 1620.

Amber: the Pilgrims sailed from England to find a new home where they could worship the way they wanted to. Zach: The trip on the Mayflower was very hard. They had yucky food.

Elizabeth: Thanksgiving Day there was a lot of food. The Pilgrims invited the Indians to the feast. Todd:The Pilgrims took a cat on the Mayflower to eat the rats.

Heather: The Pilgrim girls had so much to do. They fed the chickens and scrubbed the pots. Justin: They cooked food in a pot over the fire and they baked bread in a beehive ovenoutdoors.

Jenessa: The girls wore a coif on their heads. Roger: I like dressing up like a Pilgrim. The boys wore breeches.

Helen: Back in the 1600's the children couldn't speak before the parents. Chip: The Pilgrims used a shallop to go from the Mayflower to the shore. They had to put it together.

Naomi: Pilgrim grownups slept half sitting up because they thought their stomach would go into their throat. The beds were very small. Will: The Pilgrims wore a lot of clothes even in the summer . They thought they protected them.

Mikaela: The girls played with a doll called a poppet. Will: The Pilgrims celebrated the first Thanksgiving. It lasted three days.

Lillian: The Pilgrims slapped their bread down to get the bugs out when they were on the Mayflower. Nathan: The Pilgrims didn't have much to eat. Life was hard.
