European explorers came to North America to look for land and resources. When they got to Maine, they found lots of pine trees, animal furs, granite and fish from the Atlantic Ocean. They thought it was a good place to settle.
European settlers settled along
the coast and the rivers of Maine. They settled there for food,
water, and other resources. But they found out that it was really
tough to live here because of the extremely cold winters and the
Native Americans. The Native Americans didn't like the white
settlers. They started a war. They fought over resources, food, and
land. They had many wars and thousands died.
The white settlers forced out the
Native Americans. More and more white settlers came and built houses
and towns. Many explorers continued to explore and settle
land.
