Grandparents

My grandparents are the best grandparents anyone could have. Their names are Carroll and Irene, but I just call them Meme and Papa. They live in Southwest Harbor, Maine so I don’t get to see them a lot, but when I do I wish I could stay longer!

Southwest Harbor is located near the ocean next to Acadia National Park. Balsam fir trees grow along the shoreline next to large granite ledges.

When I do stay at Meme and Papa I sleep in my mom’s old room that is upstairs. My sister and I sleep on mattresses on the floor and my mom sleeps in her brothers bed. The beds are really tall and theirs a bunch of old baby stuff left over from my mom’s six brothers and sisters.

When I go to Meme and Papa’s my cousin Hannah comes over every day and we find a game to play in the closet and walk into the living room to play. I like finding games to play in the closet downstairs.

The games we play are made up from leftover toys like cardboard bricks and pieces from a farm game. We usually pretend that the cardboard bricks are pastures and we set up the pigs, sheep, horses, and cows in the pastures. Then we take the tractor and go get new sheep. We put the sheep in the trailer of the tractor and we bring it back to the pasture. We try to make the new sheep feel at home.

There is a piano in the hallway of my grandparents house. Sometimes I play it before I walk into the living room or jog upstairs. I just put down notes with my fingers because I don’t really know how to play the piano. I do know how to play Mary Had a Little Lamb though!

My Meme and Papa have a lot of cats! My Auntie lives with them and she loves cats. There’s one named Rolly, he’s really cute. he is all black with yellow green eyes. I like to pet him and listen to him purr. We sit in my Aunties chair and he jumps up on to the arm of the chair.

At my grandparents every afternoon around 1:00 o’clock I always ask if we can go to the ice-cream store! When we do go, we don’t drive in the car, it’s so close we walk!

I usually get MooseTracks! It’s vanilla ice cream with a bunch of chocolate chunks in it. There’s a bunch of skinny chunks that looks like someone peeled the ice off and turned it brown. The person at the counter always scoops three scoops onto the cone.

I love my grandparents and I really enjoy visiting them in Southwest Harbor. I love playing the make believe games and eating my grammy’s cooking. I especially like seeing my mom’s old room. I like to wonder about her growing up in grammy and grammpy’s big house!
