The Big Crash

Back to Chris's Readings

One day, five days before my birthday, I was at my cousin’s house. Abby and Libby let me ride their motor bike. It was sunny outside. While I was driving the bike I saw a big heavy-duty work truck. The driver stopped suddenly so that he wouldn’t hit me. I headed into the driveway. That’s when the tragedy happened. I did not use the break because I was afraid the motor bike would flip over. eeeerrrrrr bang! I crashed into a stone wall!

At first it felt like my jaw was out of its socket. My chin had hit the stone wall. My chin was gushing blood. I put my thumb to my chin and pulled it off again. The whole entire thumb was covered in blood. My dad and uncle rushed me inside and covered my chin with a cloth to try and stop the bleeding. After looking at my chin they decided I would need stitches.
My dad lowered me into my uncles van and took me to the hospital near their house. My chin was throbbing and it hurt really bad. The doctor took me into a room, with a curtain with two seats.

He put some mushy orange gel on my chin. I’m not sure what it was for, but after he let me rest for a little while he came back with a needle and Novocain.

He shot me in the chin with the needle filled with Novocain. That was the worst part and it hurt! I rested a little more until my chin became numb. Then the doctor sewed some stitches in. He put three in, and you’d
expect it to hurt but it didn’t hurt at all. It just felt like a little tug on a sleeve.
The doctor told me that I was really still as a stone and better than most patients.

When I got back to my cousin’s house Gabe gave me a little toy hammer. It was gold. I think now it is buried in the sand box at Bowdoin Central School. The accident has changed my opinion about riding motor bikes. I don’t want to ride motor bikes anymore but I will ride a motor scooter!
