I was taking my Mom and my two year old cousin Annie for a golf cart ride in my grandparents’ retirement community when it happened . Annie gave a sudden jerk of her arm forcing me to turn the wheel 40 degrees to the right, and we flew off the road! Annie screamed so loud that the elderly folks must have jumped so high they hit the roofs of their houses.

I’ve been driving golf carts since I was pretty young so I was surprised and a little embarrassed. When we had flown off the road we hit a ditch and bounced into a bush. The branches from the bush had cracked the plastic windshield.

Annie fell out of the golf cart and tumbled to the ground.

My foot got caught on one of the pedals and my mom hit the side of her face on the windshield. We were all o.k., but I was afraid that my mom would get really upset with me.
Instead, she helped Annie back into the cart and helped me get the cart back onto the road. I was relieved. We slowly headed back to my grandparents’ house.

When we got back my mom told Grandma, Dad, Aunt Sally, my cousin Katie, and Grandpa what had happened. They laughed so hard their eyes popped out of their sockets and they had tears streaming down their cheeks.

A few days later I was thinking about what had happened. It seemed so funny that I had driven the golf cart off the road, but when it happened, it had really embarrassed me!
