Letters to Rebecca

Katie   Addie

Addie came to live with us three years ago. I did not pick her up from the place she came from; my sister and dad got to. When I came home I yelled “Daddy did you get her?” My dad was trying to be funny and whispered back, “Oh no, I forgot!”

I was upset. Just then, I spotted a little black object sleeping on a light pink rug. Excitedly I yelled “You did get her!”

My dad whispered, “Sssh, you might wake her.” But it was too late, she was already up and trying to walk. She was so tired she toppled over on her side. My sister, dad, and I ran over to her. She looked so beautiful with her shiny black and brown fur with the little white dot on her nose. The most beautiful boxer I have ever seen.

Addie has a fantastic nickname and it’s Booger Butt! My mom made that name up for her! She calls her that because Addie likes to snoop in the trash can and in people’s shoes. You know what is funny? Addie listens to that name!

Addie didn’t have very many teeth, but she sure could nibble. She especially liked her lamb chop, Porky. When she was a puppy, Addie also loved attention, with those belly rubs and handshakes.

When Addie first learned how to walk she would wobble and fall down. We bought her a new bed but when we placed her on it, she rolled right off because she was so little.

I held Addie every chance I got because she was so cute. Who could turn down a chance to hold her, with that little black face, and those big brown eyes with the just perfect nose that had the little white spot on it?
Today Addie is three years old and still beautiful. The three years have gone by fast and I love Addie so very much.

She grew a lot! When she stands up on her hind legs she’s as tall as me. No one thinks boxers can love as much as humans do, but Addie sure can. She sleeps with me all night, she kisses me with her long tongue, and we dance sometimes to music. I hold Addie’s front legs and she taps her long nails on the kitchen floor.

They say that dogs are a man’s best friend but Addie is MY best friend!
