Wolves seem to enjoy howling! Wolves bark, yelp, whine, and snarl too, just like a regular dog. Most wolves live in families called packs and travel over one thousand square miles! It’s easy to tell which wolf is the pack leader. The lead wolf is usually the biggest wolf in the pack. He usually has his head and tail held high. He is usually the biggest wolf in the pack Wolves are usually about 36 inches tall and can weigh from 65 to 85 pounds. Wolves are white and black with a little gray or tan and their ears are round and short. Wolves eat mostly deer, moose, and beaver. Do we have wolves in Maine? Bounty hunters, over-killing, and loss of habitat caused all the wolves to disappear in Maine over 100 years ago. As more and more people moved into Maine, they cleared forests that were the wolves’ home. As the wolves disappeared, the deer population grew. Today there are over 331,000 deer in Maine! Now the deer population is too big, and many deer starve over the long winter because of lack of food. |

..........SNAKE
One day when I was seven or eight me and my friend Tyler caught a snake. When we went to show my mom, she yelled very, very loud. I said to Tyler, “I guess she don’t like snakes.” Tyler said. “I think you’re right!” Then my mom ran out of the house. My dad said, “Let that thing go!!” because he was afraid, too.
It ended up dying of old age two years later. I was really sad because it had gotten to the point where you could pick it up without its hissing and it was really used to me.
