We're doing that !" I shouted as I watched the white dory crashing through the waves. It was towing a huge inflated banana with people riding on top, their legs straddled to either side. The excited screams and shouts from the riders made me decide that I wanted to ride the banana boat too! Lindsey, Will, Craig, and I put on our lifejackets and climbed aboard. We straddled the banana, one in front of the other with Will in front and Craig in the back. The engine from the dory roared and we were suddenly bouncing across the waves, warm water splashing my face. The water was clear and blue, the color of a turquoise stone. I could hear Lindsey and Will giggling up front as we shot over the blue ocean waves.
My legs were bouncing up over my ears and i struggled to keep my bottom on the rubber banana. The rubber handle was the only thing I could hold on to to keep me on the boat, and I clutched it with all my strength. I was laughing so hard, tears streamed down my face. Suddenly, the banana boat shot up and over a wave and we tipped to one side. Lindsey screamed, "Lean the other way!" We all leaned to the other side of the boat and were instantly thrown off. Lindsey, Craig, and I landed in the water with a splash. When I opened my eyes I saw Will waving gleefully as the boat and the banana sped off. Will had managed to stay on the bouncing banana. The driver circled around to come back and pick us up, with Will giving everyone the high five sign.
As I tread water waiting for them, a frightening thought entered my mind: SHARKS! I quickly swam towards the banana boat, thrashing at the water, and hauled myself up onto the sides. The driver of the dory turned the boat towards the white sandy beach and we headed for the land. We were soon bouncing over the waves again. We hooted and hollered as we zoomed across the water.
The Bahamas have lots of adventures to offer but I have to say, riding the banana boat was the most thrilling adventure on the island!
