About Maine Coon Cats


The Maine coon cat is one of the biggest breeds of the domestic cat. It is known for it's intelligence and playfulness as well as their appearance in cat shows. The breed is one of the oldest native to North America and originated from New England. It is also the Maine state cat. The Maine coon cat was brought over by Europeans. It is also one of the more adaptable of the cats. They got their name from the raccoon and they lived in Maine so they called it the Maine coon cat. The all white coon cat is very rare.

The Maine coon cat is at it's full size at four or five years old. Sometimes they can weigh up to 25 pounds. The average weight is 13 to 20 pounds. Some patterns of their eyes are green or green-gold. Maine coon cats have medium long fur. They have two coats of fur: one is an undercoat and the longer hairs are called guard hairs.
