Social Studies

Social Studies in Grade 5: In social studies we study the economic, geographic and political influences on people throughout history. Time travel in 5th grade begins with early European exploration. We transition to colonization with in-depth study of the colony of Plymouth which is enriched by a visit to Plimoth Plantation. We study later colonization and events that lead to the American Revolution. History comes to life as students participate in Colonial Day and the Tea Tax Debate. We visit important places relevant to the Revolution on our Boston trip in the spring. Our year concludes with the study of the United States Constitution. The study of social studies is integrated with language arts.
