How do I participate in the program?

The answer is, you already are. By turning off your computer at night and turning off the lights whenever you leave the room, you are already helping us to save energy. Whenever you do things to save energy, let your students know what you're doing. You are setting the example and helping to create a habit pattern for your self as well as the kids.

Some more great stuff

The basic rule is...If you need it, use it. If you don't need it right now, turn it off!

Turn off your mini fridge during long break periods. Take your leftovers and spare salad dressing home for the holidays! Remember to prop open the door and unplug it before you leave.

If you have an adjustable thermostat in your room, turn it back to 55 degrees at the end of the day. It may mean a chilly start to your day, but the temperature should recover before the first student arrives. If not, let me know and together we can find the best setback temperature for your room to maximize savings without impacting the learning environment.

Create your own energy awareness team. Assign groups or individuals to look for energy waste in your school during lunch and recess times. Computer monitors, classroom lights and AV equipment left on in empty rooms are all good energy team "catches".

The key to our success is to get involved! If you have a great idea that you would like to pass on or would like some more information or ideas for classroom involvement feel free to contact me at donovanb@link75.org. Also, let me know what your classroom is doing and we'll let the rest of the district know.
