Description of Library Resources and Information about Accessing Resources from Home

Electric Library: This is an extensive database which contains magazine articles, newspaper articles, articles from reference books, pictures, maps, and transcripts from television and radio broadcasts. It is an excellent source for historical research as well as current issues.

Maps 101: This is a program which contains lots of different maps of states of the U.S. as well as countries of the world.

World Almanac Online: This is the online version of the World Almanac. You can browse the index or search the site for specific information. It is an excellent resource for all different types of statistics, lists, dates in history, flags, state and country information, etc.

Grolier Online: This is an encyclopedia program which contains The Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia, The New Book of Knowledge, and Encyclopedia Americana. It also has a cultural encyclopedia (Lands and Peoples), a science encyclopedia (The New Book of Popular Science), and a program which provides tons of information about states of the U.S. (America the Beautiful).

EBSCO Databases: This is a site which contains several different databases. It is a free service to every computer in the state of Maine! One of the databases is Searchasaurus for Kids. It contains a general encyclopedia, an animal encyclopedia, and two magazine and newspaper databases. There are also databases geared to high school and college as well as an extensive health database.

World Book Online: This database is the online version of the World Book Encyclopedia.

SIRS Discoverer: This is another magazine and newspaper database which is very useful for both elementary and middle school students.

Infotrac: This database indexes information from several different reference resources. It is an excellent resource for biographies.

American Journey Databases: These databases are primary source documents from history.

Any computer in the state of Maine has access to the EBSCO Databases. Simply click on the icon on the top of Mt. Ararat Middle School's library webpage.
