The Governance Sub-committee of the Lisbon/M.S.A.D.
No. 75 Reorganization Planning Committee (RPC) met during the breakout session
of the Wednesday, October 24, 2007, meeting of the RPC at Mt. Ararat Middle
School.
Committee members present were: Joanne Rogers (Chair); Robert W. Hill; Tim
Lavan; Dan Billings; Charles Smith and Gina Mason.
Also present were M.S.A.D. No. 75 Superintendent
Michael Wilhelm and student representative
Chairwoman Rogers called the meeting to order
during the sub-committee breakout session of the RPC.
A discussion regarding the continued work of the
Governance Sub-committee yielded the following:
● The Governance Sub-committee will
undertake a policy review. Policy
recommendations for the RSU Board will be made following comparison of current
● The Governance Sub-committee will undertake
a review of current Lisbon and M.S.A.D. No. 75 committees and develop committee
recommendations for then new RSU Board.
The following committees were initially recognized as areas for primary
work of any School Board: Policy, Curriculum, Finance, Facilities, Professional
and Support Staff negotiations.
● The Governance Sub-committee will
investigate the relationship of the new RSU with the Career & Technical
Education (CTE) system. Areas of focus
will include programming, tuition and the financial impact.
● The Governance Sub-committee will
investigate the relationship of the new RSU with various existing adult
education providers, including Vocational Region Ten, Lisbon Adult Education
and Merrymeeting Adult Education.
● The Governance Sub-committee will
investigate and develop a recommendation for the RPC an initial meeting date
for the new RSU following election of the new Board. Additionally, a timeline for current system
budget hearings, budget meetings (a new requirement), budget validation
referendum, RSU formation referendum, RSU Board member elections will be
developed.
