Counseling Program At Woodside Elementary School
Counseling services are available for all students at the Woodside Elementary School . These services are provided by :

Helene McGlauflin, LCPC , school counselor, who is here Monday through Friday 8-4 and provides direct, responsive services to children Kindergarten through fifth grade, and consultation to all teachers, staff and administration.

Barbara Moskol, LPC , school counselor , who is here Tuesdays and Thursdays and provides conflict resolution support to students in grades 3-5, teaches lessons in all grades, and supervises our mentoring programs.

Sara Eaton, LCSW , school social worker, who is here Monday through Friday full time and provides counseling and consultation to students who receive special education services.

The referral process is as follows
When a parent, teacher or counselor is concerned about a child's progress or development, they can consider supporting the child through school counseling for regular education students and through school social work services for special education students. In general, referrals for counseling are made when a child has difficulty with: making and keeping friends, coping with feelings, making appropriate choices or reaching their potential. We offer the child a trusting relationship in which new skills can be learned and practiced, feelings can be safely expressed and self esteem can be strengthened.
Depending on the need, we will determine whether your son/daughter would be best served through consultation with his/her teacher or you, or by individual or group sessions. For regular education students, the school counselor would begin the referral; for special education students, the social worker or special education teacher would begin the referral, and services would be established in a Pupil Evaluation Team meeting (PET).
In consultation , one of us talks with both you and your child's teacher about best practices to help the child be successful at school, and sometimes develop counseling goals for individual or group work.
In individual counseling , a child visits the counselor or social worker once per week for 30 minutes at a time that does not interfere with his/her academics. In that time one of us would offer the child trust and support as we work on their counseling goals through art, games and instruction.
In small group counseling , two to five children with similar concerns are brought together to practice skills they need or to gain support from one another. The group meets once per week for 30 minutes until no longer needed. During these sessions the children share news or concerns, then participate in a game or activity focused on the counseling goals of the group.
