A school social worker provides social work services to children in special education who may need these services to benefit from their educational program.

Social Work Service is direct work with children and/ or indirect work with parents, school staff, school administrators, outside agencies. School social work service includes:

Individual and/or small group counseling for students
Prevention
Consultation with parents
Consultation with school staff
Consultation with community agencies
Advocacy
Assessment and intervention
Linkage to resources
Program consultation, development and coordination
