Dear Parents, Guardians and Students,

Wow! This week has just flown by as we settle into routines and really getting down the responsibilities in our classroom. We have begun classroom jobs, Reading Workshop centers, and our studies of Animals (habitats/biomes), Around the World map skills, and Healthy Eating. How excited we are to learn about so much this year!
I have some students with questions about the homework, assignment notebooks, and bringing everything back to school on time. The best place to begin would be assignment notebooks. These are where all work is documented and checked before going into their backpack along with their home folder which contains their mailbox work (papers for home). Each student should be using their three-ring binder to keep both items organized and together. Third grade may also keep their math homework folder in this binder.
Next, there is the number of papers sent home each night and what is due when. The following is a schedule for homework that will only slightly vary from week to week and should make things more clear.

Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday
Homework: Study Spelling
Reading Log (20)
Math
Health Study Spelling
Reading Log

Other subject Study Spelling

Reading Log
Math Any Office Papers Due

Lastly, there were some questions about the reading log and how to fill it out. Every night students should be reading 20 minutes out of a free reading book. This book should be at their reading level or they need to follow along if they are being read to. On the reading log you need to write down any books that are read and if you are reading the same book the number of pages you completed that night. Then on the other side is an activity to work on with one of the books you read. The reading log is due on Friday!

If there are any other questions please send them in their assignment notebook!
Kindly,
Mrs. Reeves
