Singing
Singing is central to elementary school musicians. General music students sing songs that represent a variety of styles and cultures. Fourth and Fifth grade students have the opportunity to join chorus and experience a rich and challenging choral repertoire.
Movement & Dancing
Movement is essential to young and developing musicians. General music students have many opportunities for creative movement as well as formalized singing games and folk dances.




Improvising, Composing, & Arranging Music
General music students are provided opportunities to express their creativity through composition and improvisation projects. Students work both individually and in groups to create instrumental and vocal pieces.

Music Literacy
Music reading and writing are crucial skills for developing musicians. General music students learn the basics of both rhythmic and tonal notation.



World Music, Music History, & Listening
As they sing, play, dance, and listen general music students experience the richness of the world’s music. Students gain an understanding of music’s importance to cultures past and present.
