MSAD 75 Pre-K Information
About the Program
To increase access to high-quality early childhood learning opportunities for students before entering Kindergarten, MSAD 75 provides four Pre-K classes, for a total of 64 students.
Students must be 4 years old by October 15, 2025 and not eligible for Kindergarten. The program uses the same calendar as grades K-12, runs five days a week, and approximately 6 hours per day. Currently, we classes at the Williams-Cone School in Topsham, Bowdoin Central School, Harpswell Community School, and the Woodside School in Topsham.
Pre-K Basics
Who is eligible: Families from across the district are welcome to indicate interest through an online registration process. The registration does not guarantee acceptance into the program but instead starts a multiple-step process.
- Demonstrate need through screening
- Lottery system which does not guarantee placement in your resident school
When: The Pre-K classes follow the district calendar - 175 student days (five days per week).
What:
- Each class will use instructional materials that are evidence-based and align with the MELDS. Growth will be monitored by the teachers using appropriate assessments.
- The daily schedule will adhere to state regulations, which include aspects such as student grouping, physical movement, fresh air, and rest. Similarly, the setting will be appropriately sized, accessible, and proximate to necessary resources (toilets, sinks, personal storage).
- Each class will have at least two staff members (e.g. a Maine-certified Early Childhood teacher, and an Educational Technician III) to ensure that a 1:8 ratio is achieved.
How do I indicate interest? When you begin the online registration process, you will be assigned an application number. This number allows you to return to the registration process if necessary. We encourage you to make note of your application number.
Please have the following documents ready to upload as you begin the registration process:
- Proof of residency within the district - This can be a utility bill, tax bill, etc. We cannot accept residency documents that only provide PO Box addresses. If you do not have proof of residency, please contact the school where you are enrolling.
- Student's Birth Certificate
- An official Immunization Record - for more information about public school immunization requirements, please visit the Maine Department of Education's website.
- Custody Documentation (as applicable)
Registration does NOT guarantee a spot in the program. In the past, we have had numerous years when we unfortunately did not have enough slots for all the families that are interested in Pre-K.
Once registered, you will be contacted by a school representative in May to schedule a screening appointment for your child. The screening is usually a 30-minute appointment. We try to determine classroom placement as soon as possible so families can make plans for the upcoming school year. Registration and screening do NOT guarantee a spot in the program.
